Q Read John 13:1–17. Should footwashing be considered one of the ordinances of the Church alongside baptism and the Lord’s Supper? Support your answer.
Footwashing must not be considered to be one of the ordinances of the Church because the washing of the feet of Simon Peter by Jesus had been a sign to make the disciples understand the importance of humility and serving the human beings like God does. The washing of the feet of Simon Peter by Jesus had to be done to prove that God the Father is humble. That is why, Jesus had stated, “Those who have had a bath need only to wash their feet; their whole body is clean” (John 13:10). This statement could refer to baptism of the disciples or the literal meaning of having a bath physically by the disciples.
